The Beginning

The founders of Javelin came from backgrounds that covered many disciplines in manufacturing, engineering and sales. This combined with their rich history in industries from water treatment, waste to energy, wood working, steel design, commercial paper baling, waste handling and recycling brought a great team together to address the expanding needs of the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) market. There was a combined experience in these businesses of in excess of 40 years. Based on these backgrounds a new company was born.

For years, the eddy currents being supplied to the MRF marketplace were not as efficient as those being supplied to the scrap trade often due to the purchase being typically made based on the lowest price and not the functionality. Recognizing this, and coupled with the rising prices in the commodity of UBC’s, Javelin saw an opportunity to raise the bar. Having been aware of existing eddy current separator technology, Javelin brought the best features from many existing units together into a single device. The recovery rates from the very beginning far exceeded those to which the industry was accustomed. “The Throw Makes the Differenceâ„¢” in Javelin’s ads isn’t just hyperbole; the exceedingly longer throw from a Javelin eddy current separator does indeed make a difference in the bottom line of those plants that use them. With the success garnered in the MRF market Javelin embarked on expanding the product line with higher polarity and stronger eddy currents in 2011 and found acceptance in the scrap trade as well as the electronic scrap recovery markets.

Since that time the company has units in virtually every market to include those previously mentioned as well a glass cleanup, foundries, smelters, munitions recovery and many others.

The Future

It is with great excitement that we announce that, in 2017, Javelin Manufacturing has been acquired by Industrial Magnetics, Inc. We are also pleased that our experienced and dedicated Javelin Manufacturing staff will remain intact to serve and support the rapid growth of Javelin’s products, and the Fort Wayne location will continue to operate as the primary engineering and design center for the brand.

Together, Javelin and IMI will be able to take that next step in providing a larger and more diverse magnetic metal separation product offering. With capital investments by Industrial Magnetics, Inc., Javelin is set to bolster the current testing platform, modernize our assembly capabilities and create a toll processing cell to ensure we offer the best equipment possible. The addition of Javelin’s full range of eddy current units to Industrial Magnetics, Inc.’s existing line of magnetic metal separation products will provide the scrap, E-scrap and post-consumer recycling markets with industry leading metal separation and capture solutions.
